Reversal in the points table of the World Test Championship, huge advantage for Pakistan

World Test Championship: Pakistan’s team has managed to beat Sri Lanka by 4 wickets in the first test played in Galle. Pakistan’s spectacular win has caused a major upset in the World Test Championship table. Babar Azam’s team successfully chased down 342 runs to achieve an extraordinary victory, boosting their chances of playing in the final of the World Test Championship next year.

The win helped Pakistan go ahead of Sri Lanka and move up to the third position in the World Test Championship table with a score of 58.33 per cent. South Africa (71.43 percent) and Australia (70 percent) are now ahead of Pakistan in the ICC Test Championship points table.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, slipped three places to the sixth position in the table with a win-loss percentage of 48.15. As a result, India improved one place to fourth (52.08 per cent) and West Indies to fifth (50 per cent).

Sri Lanka has a chance

A win in the second Test against Sri Lanka would see Pakistan rise to the top of the rankings against South Africa and Australia, while a loss would move Babar’s side to fifth. Sri Lanka can finish third in the table if they win the next match by a huge margin. Also, winning the second Test can level the series.

Teams like New Zealand and England are now almost out of the race to play the final of the Test Championship. Bangladesh also does not see any possibility of moving ahead in the points table.
