More than three and a quarter lakh people have lost their lives due to Corona epidemic. A large number of children have been orphaned by the death of both parents. To help these children, the Modi government has announced various facilities. Many announcements have been made, ranging from free schooling of these children to various other facilities and a fixed deposit of Rs 10 lakh. This help has been announced from ‘PM Cares for Children’.
Scheme for children below 10 years of age
Such children will be kept as a day scholar in a central school or private school in the vicinity of their residence. If a private school is admitted, fees will be given as per RTE rules. They will also get the cost of dress, books and notebooks.
Provision for 11-18 year olds
Children in this age group will be given admission in residential schools like Sainik School, Navodaya Vidyalaya. If the child wishes to live with his grandparents or an acquaintance, he will be given admission as a day scholar in a nearby central school or private school. Fees will be paid from PM Cares.
Interest free loan for higher education
Such children will be provided education loan for vocational courses and higher education. The interest on his debt will be repaid by the ‘PM Cares for Children’ scheme. As an alternative, these children will be given a scholarship equal to the graduation fee under the central or state government schemes. For children who are not eligible under the existing scholarship schemes, PM Cares will provide an equivalent scholarship.
Health insurance in Ayushman Bharat scheme
Children orphaned due to the epidemic will also get health insurance benefit of Rs five lakh under Ayushman Bharat Yojana. For these children up to the age of 18, the premium amount will be paid from PM Cares.
FD of 10 lakhs
PM Cares will contribute to make an FD of Rs 10 lakh for every child who has completed the age of 18 years. It will be used as a monthly financial aid / scholarship to meet their individual needs during higher education for the next five years from the age of 18. On completing the age of 23 years, he will receive a lump sum of funds for personal and commercial use.
