1987 batch IPS Mukul Goyal has been made the new DGP of UP. IPS Hitesh Chandra Awasthi retired from this post on Thursday itself.

Let us inform that IPS Hitesh Chandra Awasthi has retired from the post of DGP on Thursday itself. After this the charge of DGP was given to ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar. On Tuesday evening, IPS Mukul Goyal also met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The new Director General of Police of the state, Mukul Goyal, hails from Muzaffarnagar in UP. He also did MBA after doing BTech from IIT Delhi. He has been the Superintendent of Police of Azamgarh district of UP and SSP of Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Saharanpur and Meerut districts. Apart from this, he has also been the DIG of Kanpur, Agra, Bareilly Range and IG of Bareilly Zone.
Mukul Goyal has also been posted as ADG Law and Order of the state in the previous Akhilesh Yadav government of Uttar Pradesh. He was made ADG Law and Order during the Muzaffarnagar riots, replacing Arun Kumar.
On June 30, 21 police officers, including the DGP, retired in UP. Of these, 9 are IPS and 12 are PPS officers. The 21 police officers included UP cadre and provincial police service officers, 2 DG rank, 2 IG rank, 3 DIG rank and 2 SP rank officers among the retiring IPS officers.
