The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Center received a total of Rs 785 crore from individual donations, election trusts and industry groups during the financial year 2019-20. This is almost five times the donation received by the country’s main opposition Congress in the same period. According to the information, the highest contribution in the donations of BJP has been given by the electoral trust, industries and party’s own leaders.

Piyush Goyal, Pema Khandu, Kirron Kher and Raman Singh were among the leaders who donated the most to the BJP. Major industry groups like ITC, Kalyan Jewellers, Rare Enterprises, Ambuja Cement, Lodha Developers and Motilal Oswal also donated to the BJP. New Democratic Electoral Trust, Prudent Electoral Trust, Jalkalyan Electoral Trust, Triumph Electoral also donated to BJP.

At the same time, according to the information provided by the Congress party in this regard, it received a total donation of Rs 139 crore. Apart from this, if we talk about other political parties, the ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal has received donations of Rs 8 crore. CPI (Communist Party of India) has received Rs 1.3 crore and CPI(M) has received Rs 19.7 crore.

It is worth noting that in this report only the information of those who gave more than 20 thousand rupees. Due to the Kovid-19 epidemic, the Election Commission has extended the last date for submission of annual audit report for the year 2019-20 to 30 June.
