Assam: CAG Caught Irregularities Of 2.15 Lakh Crore In 25 Years, Questions Not Answered Yet

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report tabled in the Assam Assembly said that in the 25 years since 1994, alleged financial irregularities of Rs 2,15,286 lakh crore have been unearthed in various departments of the state. The state government has not yet given any answer to the questions raised regarding this.

The CAG, in its report on social, economic (non-PSU) and general sectors for the financial year ended March 31, 2019, said 2,734 issued between 1994-95 to 2018-19, examining 55 departments of the state government The alleged irregularities were mentioned in the Inspection Reports (IR).

This report, presented during the current budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, states that out of IRs issued till December 2018, 39,479 cases relating to 6,385 IRs were not settled till the end of June 2019.

The CAG said that these inspection reports pertain to various departments such as Public Health Engineering, Public Works Department (PWD), Water Resources, Irrigation and Inland Water Transport and other departments.

The report said that the objections raised in paragraph 5262 of IR 1208 have not been answered for the last 10 years or more. Not only this, the initial replies, which are required to be given by the heads of the departments concerned within four weeks of the receipt of the report, were also not given. The number of departments that did not respond is 55.
