The dialogues and songs of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s famous film ‘Anand’ are still very much liked. Cinematographers cannot forget the brilliant performance of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna in this film. Released on 12 March 1971, the film won the Filmfare Award for Best Film, Best Dialogue, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing, Best Story, Best Feature Film. There is an anecdote about the making of the film that at the time of the making of this film, when Dharmendra came to know that Rishikesh was taking Rajesh Khanna for this, he was angry.
Dharmendra, who arrived on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, told the story of the making of this film that he was angry with the film director Hrishikesh Mukherjee because he did not take me in the film. Dharmendra had told that ‘Rishikesh told me the story of ‘Anand’. Was supposed to cast me in this film but later it came to know that he is doing a film with Rajesh Khanna. When I came to know that the lead actor Rajesh Khanna has been taken, I got drunk one night and said ‘Rishi da was supposed to give this film to me, had also told the story, then why did he give this film to him? After listening to Dharmendra on the phone, he said – sleep Dharam, we will talk in the morning. He used to hang up the phone and I was calling again and again asking why did he do this, why didn’t he give me the role?’
The success of this film made on the uncertainty of life and friendship created history. After this film, Amitabh Bachchan’s acting got a new dimension.
